George Split Toe Derby

An instant classic and our best seller from the start, the George Split Toe Derby in Utah Grain calf has a story worth telling—from its origins and leather sourcing to the months-long waiting list.
The split toe derby likely originated in Norway, where fishermen wore it for its sturdy, water-resistant construction with minimal seams. The original design featured no heel counter and a skin-stitched toe, leaving just a single seam at the back. Our George Split Toe Derby takes a more refined approach, with elegant raised stitching that joins the vamp and upper, making it equally at home in both casual and business settings. Combined with the inside-out toe stitching, this creates a balanced, striking silhouette—especially in a textured leather like Utah calf.
The George is built on our Contemporary Almond last, featuring a narrow heel and waist, medium instep, and moderate ball width. Its slightly finer toe and symmetrical shape make it the perfect foundation for this model.
This version features Utah calf leather, tanned exclusively by the renowned Tannerie Haas in Alsace, France. Founded in 1842, the tannery has been family-run for six generations. Locally sourced hides are hand-selected for their tight grain, vegetable-tanned, and infused with a blend of nine natural fats and oils. The result is a uniquely supple leather, highly prized by shoe connoisseurs around the world.
Given the rarity of suitable hides and the time-intensive tanning process, it’s no surprise there’s a substantial waiting list. We run just four production cycles per year—so don’t sleep on it.
Sizing advice:
Take your regular size if you wear Carmina or Crockett & Jones. Size down half a size from your Edward Green or Gaziano & Girling size, and up half a size from your Carlos Santos size. For more information please see here.

Sons of Henrey Size and Last Guide
A well made last is the first step towards a good fit, as it balances elegance to science. At Sons of Henrey, we have over a decade of experience handling lasts, shoes and client's feet. To create our lasts, we decided to work together with the world renown Springline factory, from Northampton, UK. They are the only remaining last making factory in the United Kingdom, and produce all of the lasts for the most well known British shoe brands. Our lasts are the result of close cooperation between the last makers at Springline, our Goodyear welted factory in Spain and us.
Similar to many brands in our field, all Sons of Henrey lasts are made according to the UK sizing system. The UK sizing system is the easiest to understand, and to use.
The Sons of Henrey Size and Last guide will help you determine the correct size for your feet. We will first explore our 5 different shoe lasts in more detail, and then talk about sizing and fit compared to other brands. At the bottom of the page you will also find a conversion table that you can use to determine your size, when converted from US or Japanese sizing.
ELEGANT ROUND LAST
The elegant round toe last is a more refined version of the well-known, traditional round last. With slightly more taper towards the tip and a distinctive toe profile, the Elegant Round last is a very handsome last. It goes well with almost every model, from a classic captoe Oxford, to the more casual Chukka (pictured) and Field Boot range.
The last features a narrow waist, medium instep height and medium width across the ball. At the toe and under the vamp, there is extra volume for your feet. The heel to ball dimension, critical for a good fit, is the same for all Sons of Henrey lasts.
In terms of fitting, the Elegant Round last fits true to size and we recommend that you take your standard UK size.
ROUND LAST
The Round last, while definitely no less elegant than the Elegant Round, is a more rounded off, classic styled last. The toe are is slightly lower and made a bit shorter, to give it a more casual appearance. The last has been developed for our more casual Field Boots, and the Full Brogue Derby models such as the Jermyn Longwing Derby (pictured).
The last features a narrow waist, medium instep height and has slightly more width across the ball. The vamp remains generous in terms of volume, but the toe area is slightly lower. The heel to ball dimension, critical for a good fit, is the same for all Sons of Henrey lasts.
In terms of fitting, the Elegant Round last fits true to size and we recommend that you take your standard UK size.
CONTEMPORARY ALMOND LAST
Our contemporary almond toe, withits slightly finer toe and more symmetric shape, is the ideal last for our SplitToe derby (pictured), and the elegant Wholecut Chelsea boot.
The last features a narrow waist, medium instep height and medium width across the ball. The heel to ball dimension, critical for a good fit, is the same for all Sons of Henrey lasts.
In terms of fitting, the Contemporary Almond last fits true to size and we recommend that you take your standard UK size.
LOAFER LAST
The perfect loafer last. Almost a year of development went into the loafer last, but we cannot think of anything else to improve.
Fitting true to size, the loafer last has a more narrow heel for extra grip, slim waist and lower volume under the vamp for an improved no-lace fit. The toe shape can best be described as an almond toe, with inspiration drawn from bespoke samples and made by the talented lastmakers at Springline, Northampton.
We have received nothing but high praise from our customers, so make sure to try it.
SOFT SQUARE LAST
Our soft chisel toe, with its gentlyrounded yet distinctive side wall and elegant toe shape, looks stunning both on the more formal Harvey captoe oxford (pictured) or a casual shoe with plain vamp.
The last features a narrow waist, slightly higher instep and medium width across the ball. The heel to balldimension, critical for a good fit, is the same for all Sons of Henrey lasts.
In terms of fitting, the Soft Square last fits true to size and we recommend that you take your standard UK size.
Sons of Henrey Size and Fit comparison
Sons of Henrey shoes is not the only shoe brand in the universe (shocking, we know), and it is worthwhile when you consider purchasing a pair of shoes of ours, to determine your size based on that in other brands.
From the start, we decided to use the English sizing system for all Sons of Henrey shoes. It is the easiest to use, and most accurate shoe sizing system in use today. What it does is allow us to compare the size of Sons of Henrey shoes, to any other shoe brand that also uses the same sizing system (which is almost every European brand). Below we list some of the most important brands, where we are often asked to compare our shoes to.
Please know this is a general indication of size. While the size is determined by the heel to ball ratio of a shoe last, the fit is determined by the shape of the toe. This guide will help you establish your correct size, but to find the proper fit for your feet, we advise you to read the fitting properties on each last above.
Crockett & Jones: as a classic British brand, Crockett & Jones and us share the same workshop where we make our shoe lasts. Please take the same size in Sons of Henrey shoes as you do in Crockett and Jones' standard lasts.
Edward Green: while again, we share the same last maker, Edward Green uses a more narrow fitting as their standard. For this reason, we advise you to go down half a size from your standard Eward Green size.
Gaziano & Girling: similar to Edward Green, Gaziano & Girling uses a more narrow fitting as their standard. For this reason, we advise you to go down half a size from your standard Gaziano & Girling size.
Tricker's: we advise you to take the same size as your standard Tricker's size.
Carmina: we advise you to take the same size as you take in the Carmina Rain last (or equivalent), and to size down half a size from the Carmina Simons last (as the Simon last runs small).
Carlos Santos: we advise you to size up half a size from your standard Carlos Santos size, as this is a brand that runs large.
TLB Mallorca: we advise you to take the same size as your standard TLB Mallorca size.
Loake: we advise you to take the same size as you do with the Loake Capital last.
Saint Crispin: we advise you to take the same size as your standard Saint Crispin size.
Enzo Bonafe: we advise you to take the same size as your standard Enfo Bonafe size.
